Jon Schaffer’s Music Direction Is Back — But Touring Still Looks Unlikely

Introduction

So, Jon Schaffer was on the YouTube channel that used to be known as Razorfist, and I saw how he used to fight for Jon before he was pardoned. It's been a while since I have watched his channel. But Jon actually gave one of the most important updates we’ve heard in a long time. Honestly, it lines up with what a lot of us already figured. Jon said that about a week ago, he finally started playing guitar again and even started writing music again. That alone is cool to hear, because for a while it looked like he wasn’t touching music at all.

Jon's Comments

When it comes to Iced Earth, Jon was straight to the point about it and bringing the band back would basically be a “what if.” Which means not impossible, but not something he’s actively chasing. He said he wants great music, not just new music. Which I respect that. He’s not trying to force an Iced Earth comeback just to say he did it. But the good news is this: Jon said there is new music coming for Sons of Liberty. We already know Thought Crimes Vol. 1 and 2 drops on July 4th, and yeah, it includes “We the People.” Back in my short, I said I wished that track was included, and it turns out it actually is. At the time, I only knew the first two albums, and not the full track list like now. July 4th is American's 250th birthday of America's independence. Jon also made it clear he’s not interested in the whole album → tour → album cycle anymore. Honestly, I don’t blame him. That grind is brutal, especially as you get older. Touring looks like a no, and he’s not trying to rebuild that whole machine again. But the cool part is this: Jon is back to making music. He’s writing again. He’s doing it on his own terms, without the pressure. Honesty, I’d love to see an Iced Earth reunion someday. But right now, it looks unlikely. That’s fine, because Sons of Liberty still brings that fight‑for‑freedom energy that only Jon can write. Songs like Jekyll and Hyde and We the Republic still hit with that same intensity. This kind of music is like fighting the establishment.
