Karmacode for 20 Years of Lacuna Coil Legacy

Introduction

Hard to believe it's been 20 years since Karmacode came out on March 31st, 2006. The album felt like the last of the soft more goth rock in the band before going more heavy as a style. I will go through and look at each track. I will give my favorites and least favorites. Video review at the bottom.

Copies Sold

The album did have some success as in 500,000 copies of Karmacode have officially been sold worldwide. In Italy the album sold over 20,000, earning them a silver record. The album has sold over 200,000 copies in the United States.

Compared to other albums

Compared to Comalies, the songs on Karmacode aren’t bad at all, but Comalies had more tracks that really stood out. Karmacode has maybe four songs that hit that same level. That might be why Shallow Life ended up shifting even more into a pop‑leaning style — the band was experimenting with where to go next. I personally wasn’t big on Shallow Life, but I really got into the heavier era starting with Dark Adrenaline all the way to now. I own all the CDs except the latest album, and for me, Comalies and the heavier era are the ones that stuck the most.

Track list

  1. Fragile - Songs opens with Cristina singing. The band is opening up with rocking. I do like this song. The meaning feels like regardless of who's watching, we are who we are.

  2. To The Edge - Song opens up with the bass and goes into a rocking style together with band. Cristina sings this song a lot more than Andreas. The song meaning feels like getting close to fallen off in life. This song isn't bad.

  3. Our Truth - One of the popular songs and my favorite off of this song. The oh woah part and chorus part is what made this song. I can see why this song was so successful. The song feels like you are on a journey. This song did end up in Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock band 2 and Rock band Unplugged.

  4. Within Me - This one feels like searching for who you are. Which I did like this song. More of like a melody type song. People look more at Cristina for the vocals, but Andreas does a great job on his parts of this song.

  5. Devoted - The song is more melody and opens up with Andrea singing which this song features more of Andres singing unlike the rest of the album. Then goes into Cristina singing the chorus. I do like this song. The meaning feels like being there for you no matter what.

  6. You Create - This song I'm not big on. The song is mostly instrumental with Cristina hitting like an ah note.

  7. What I See - I like this song. The song has a meaning of seeing things changes and not understanding it. This song works with Cristina singing a good bit but Andrea's vocals fitting in at the right spots.

  8. Fragments Of Faith - This song is very heavy and shows more of the metal style of Andres. I like it and feel this song is more underrated on this album because this album doesn't get discussed like Closer or Our Truth.

  9. Closer - Another one of my favorites. The song is very catchy for the chorus which is why it was one of the popular songs from the album. The song feels like searching for a high ground in life. The song ended up in Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock.

  10. In Visible Light - This song features more techno style into the rock song. This song has more of Cristina singing with Andrea in the back parts like in closer. I don't mind this song.

  11. The Game - The song has more of Cristina singing with Andrea doing back up and the rest of the song sounds heavy. I like this song. The meaning feels like the game of emotions.

  12. Without Fear - The song starts out slow into Cristina singing. The song features the Italian roots of Cristina and Andrea. This song I don't mind but hard for me to connect with.

  13. Enjoy The Silence - Great cover in Lacuna Coil style. Dave from the band Depeche Mode praised it very well. I can say I liked it. The band rocked it and made the song very catchy.

  14. Favorite Songs: I like 3 of the song a lot like Closer, Our Truth, and Within Me

Least Favorite Songs: You Create, and Without Fear

  15. MTV Europe Music Award 2006

2006 marked Lacuna Coil’s biggest mainstream breakthrough. During the Karmacode cycle, the band earned an MTV Europe Music Award nomination — a sign of how far their visibility had grown, even though the nomination wasn’t tied to a specific album. During the Karmacode era, Lacuna Coil earned an MTV Europe Music Award nomination in 2006 — a sign of how much their profile had grown, even though they didn’t win.

  16. Closing Thoughts

I would give this album an 8 because this is a rocking album and every song is great. Even though I'm not big on two songs. It's been a while since I listened to it. But will say it's a great underrated album from Lacuna Coil. I would recommend it. If you like a goth band like Type O-Negative, then this band could be it for you. Let me know your thoughts.
